White Border (Around each Heart Panel)
With White yarn, join with a sl st to any stitch on the edge of a finished Red heart panel.
Rnd 1: Ch 1, sc evenly around the entire edge of the heart. Aim for approximately 40-45 sc, adjusting as needed to keep the edge flat. Sl st to first sc.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Side Gusset (Red Yarn)
Measure the perimeter of one finished heart panel (with the white border). This will be your approximate chain length.
Ch: Chain a length slightly less than the heart’s perimeter (e.g., if perimeter is 45 sts, chain 40 ch + 1 for turning).
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. (e.g., 40 sc)
Rows 2-8: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across. (For a thickness of about 7 rows of sc).
Fasten off, leaving a very long tail for sewing.
Strap (Red Yarn)
Ch: Chain approximately 100-120 stitches, or to your desired crossbody length + 1 for turning.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across.
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across.
Fasten off, leaving long tails for attaching to the bag.
Finishing & Assembly
Embroider Stars: Using the tapestry needle and White yarn, embroider small asterisk or star shapes onto the front Red heart panel. Scatter them randomly as shown in the image.
Assemble Bag: With the tapestry needle and the long tail from the gusset, carefully sew one long edge of the gusset to the white-bordered edge of one heart panel (this will be the front of the bag). Make sure to align them evenly.
Then, sew the remaining long edge of the gusset to the second heart panel (the back of the bag).
Attach Strap: Locate the two upper ‘dips’ of the heart on the gusset. Securely sew the ends of the strap to these points, ensuring it is not twisted.
Optional: Sew a magnetic snap or button closure inside the bag opening.
