IB – Incorporate Bead (slide bead close to hook before making the next designated stitch)
Instructions
Preparation: Thread all 70-80 seed beads onto your crochet thread before starting. Push them down the thread, away from your working end. Throughout the pattern, “IB” means to slide a bead close to your hook before making the next designated stitch (usually a sl st or sc) to secure it.
Main Motif: Delicate Leaf (DL)
Ch 6. Sl st in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next ch, hdc in next ch, dc in next ch, sl st in last ch. (This forms one side of a delicate leaf.) Turn. Sl st into the same dc, sc in hdc, hdc in sc, sc in sl st, sl st into base of the first ch to close.
Part 1: Central Droplet
Row 1 (First Leaf): Make one Delicate Leaf (DL).
Row 2 (Connecting Bead and Leaf): Ch 3, *IB*, sl st into the top point of the previous leaf. Ch 3. Make another DL.
Repeat Row 2 three more times to create a total of 5 interconnected leaves with beads, forming the central drop.
Part 2: Building the Necklace Body (Right Side from Center)
From the top point of the 5th leaf in the central droplet, Ch 5.
Section 1 (Leaf Cluster): Make a DL. Ch 3, *IB*, sl st into the top point of the DL. Ch 3.
Section 2 (Round Motif): Ch 4, join with sl st to form a ring. Ch 1, 6 sc into ring, join with sl st to first sc. Ch 3, *IB*, sl st into the same joining point of the round motif to secure the bead. Ch 3.
Repeat Section 1, then Section 2. Continue alternating Section 1 and Section 2 until you have created approximately 5-6 leaf/round clusters with beads on this side (total of about 10-12 decorative motifs including the central drop). End with a DL.
Part 3: Building the Necklace Body (Left Side from Center)
Go back to the top point of the 5th leaf in the central droplet (where you started the right side). Join your thread with a sl st.
Repeat the instructions for “Part 2: Building the Necklace Body (Right Side from Center)” to mirror the other side, creating approximately 5-6 leaf/round clusters. End with a DL.
Part 4: Finishing the Neck Band and Clasp Attachment
From the end of one side of the decorative front section (the top point of the last DL), Ch 40 (or adjust to desired necklace length).
Attach one half of your jewelry clasp to the end of this chain with a sl st, then secure by sewing.
From the end of the other side of the decorative front section, Ch 40.
Attach the other half of your jewelry clasp to the end of this chain with a sl st, then secure by sewing.
Weave in all loose ends carefully using your tapestry needle.
