Instructions
Gauge: Not critical for this project, but aim for a firm, delicate lace.
Note: The necklace is constructed from a choker band and various motifs, which are then joined together.
Part 1: Small Floral Motif (Make 10-12, or as needed for choker length)
Rnd 1: Ch4, join with sl st to form a ring.
Rnd 2: Ch1, 10 sc into ring, join with sl st to first sc. (10 sc)
Rnd 3: (Ch3, dc in next sc, ch3, sl st in next sc) 5 times. This creates 5 petals. Sl st to beginning ch3 sp.
Rnd 4: Working into the ch3 sps from Rnd 3: (Sc, picot, sc) in each of the 5 ch3 sps. Sl st to first sc. Fasten off.
Part 2: Choker Band Construction
Using the Small Floral Motifs, join them together as you go.
Join the first two motifs by working a sl st into a picot of the first motif, then a sl st into a picot of the second motif.
Continue joining motifs in a straight line, ensuring they sit flat. The length should comfortably fit around the wearer’s neck. You may need 10-12 motifs depending on size.
Once desired length is achieved, create an attachment loop on each end by chaining 10-15 stitches and sl st back into the motif, or attach jump rings for a jewelry clasp.
Part 3: Large Central Floral Motif (Make 1)
Rnd 1: Ch5, join with sl st to form a ring.
Rnd 2: Ch1, 12 sc into ring, join with sl st to first sc. (12 sc)
Rnd 3: Ch1, (sc in next sc, ch3) 12 times, join with sl st to first sc.
Rnd 4: In each ch3 sp: (sc, hdc, dc, tr, dc, hdc, sc). This creates 12 petals. Join with sl st to first sc.
Rnd 5: Behind the petals, ch5, sk (sc, hdc, dc, tr, dc, hdc, sc), sc between the tr of current petal and next petal. Rep around. You are creating a new layer of ch5 loops. Join with sl st.
Rnd 6: In each ch5 sp: (sc, ch3, 3dc, picot, 3dc, ch3, sc). Rep around. Join with sl st. Fasten off.
Optionally, sew a small pearl bead into the center of this motif.
Part 4: Medium Floral Motifs (Make 2)
Rnd 1: Ch4, join with sl st to form a ring.
Rnd 2: Ch1, 8 sc into ring, join with sl st to first sc. (8 sc)
Rnd 3: (Ch3, 2dc in next sc, ch3, sl st in next sc) 4 times. Sl st to beginning ch3 sp.
Rnd 4: Working into the ch3 sps from Rnd 3: (Sc, picot, sc) in each of the 4 ch3 sps. Sl st to first sc. Fasten off.
Sew a small pearl bead into the center of each motif.
Part 5: Leaf Motifs (Make approx. 20-30)
Ch5, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next ch, hdc in next ch, dc in last ch. Turn.
Ch2, working along the other side of the chain: dc in first st, hdc in next st, sc in next st, sl st in last st. Fasten off.
Part 6: Assembly and Finishing
Attach Central Motif: Position the Large Central Floral Motif at the approximate center front of the choker band. Join securely with sl sts or by sewing to the bottom edge of two adjacent Small Floral Motifs on the choker band.
Attach Medium Motifs: Position the two Medium Floral Motifs on either side of the Large Central Motif, slightly above or beside it. Join them to the Large Motif and/or the choker band.
Attach Leaf Motifs: Begin attaching the Leaf Motifs, creating cascading designs as seen in the image.
Attach leaves in clusters of 3-4 to the lower edges and spaces of the Large and Medium Floral Motifs.
Use sl sts or a tapestry needle to sew them securely. Vary the length of the chains used to attach them to create a natural, flowing look.
Small picots can be added between leaf clusters for extra detail.
Weave in all ends: Use a tapestry needle to meticulously weave in all loose ends.
Optional: Block the finished necklace to enhance the lace definition and ensure it lays flat.
