Instructions
Gauge: Not critical for this project, but aim for tight stitches for a delicate look.
Note: Work all components tightly to maintain shape and delicate appearance. Flowers and leaves are made separately and sewn onto the medallion.
Section 1: Crocheted Flowers (Make 3 Light Blue, 3 Light Pink, 3 Light Lavender)
Using chosen flower color floss and 1.25mm hook:
- Row 1: Ch 26.
- Row 2: 3 dc in 3rd ch from hook, *sk next ch, 3 dc in next ch*, rep from * to * across to last 2 ch. Ch 1, turn. (Approx. 12 shells)
- Row 3: Sc in first dc, sk next dc, 5 dc in next dc (center dc of shell), sk next dc, sc in next dc, *sk next dc, 5 dc in next dc, sk next dc, sc in next dc*, rep from * to * across. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
- Assembly: Starting from one end, gently roll the strip, shaping it into a rose. Use the tail to sew the base of the rose to secure its shape.
Section 2: Small Leaves (Make 6 in Bright Green)
Using bright green floss and 1.25mm hook:
- Ch 5.
- Sc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in next ch, dc in next ch, sl st in last ch. Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing.
Section 3: White Medallion Base
Using white crochet thread and 1.25mm hook:
- Rnd 1: Ch 4, sl st to first ch to form a ring. Ch 1, 10 sc into ring. Sl st to first sc. (10 sc)
- Rnd 2: Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), dc in same st, 2 dc in each remaining st around. Sl st to top of ch 3. (20 dc)
- Rnd 3: Ch 3, (dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in same st, *sk next st, (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in next st*, rep from * to * 8 more times. Sl st to top of ch 3. (10 shell groups with ch-1 spaces)
- Rnd 4: Sl st into ch-1 space. Ch 3, (dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in same ch-1 space, *(2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in next ch-1 space*, rep from * to * around. Sl st to top of ch 3. (10 shell groups with ch-2 spaces)
- Rnd 5: Sl st into ch-2 space. Ch 1, sc in same ch-2 space, ch 3, *sc in next ch-2 space, ch 3*, rep from * to * around. Sl st to first sc. (10 sc, 10 ch-3 spaces)
- Rnd 6: Sl st into first ch-3 space. Ch 3, (2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in same ch-3 space, *(3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch-3 space*, rep from * to * around. Sl st to top of ch 3. (10 large shell groups)
- Rnd 7: Sl st into ch-2 space. Ch 1, (sc, ch 3, sc) in same ch-2 space (picot), *ch 3, sk 3 dc, sc in space between shells, ch 3, (sc, ch 3, sc) in next ch-2 space*, rep from * to * around, ending with ch 3, sc in space between last shells, ch 3. Sl st to first sc. Fasten off, weave in ends.
Section 4: Medallion Assembly
- Arrange the 9 crocheted roses in a cluster in the center of the white medallion. Use the tails to sew them securely to the medallion.
- Using the tails of 3 green leaves, sew them strategically around the flower cluster on the medallion to mimic the image.
Section 5: Beaded Fringe (Make 10-12 pieces)
Using white crochet thread or fine beading thread and beading needle:
- Cut approx. 6-inch lengths of thread. Thread one end through a small seed bead, then tie a double knot to secure it at one end.
- Thread various combinations of beads onto the thread, varying lengths between 0.5 to 1.5 inches. Mix clear, iridescent, and colored beads.
- Tie a knot at the top of each beaded strand.
- Using a tapestry needle or small crochet hook, attach each beaded strand to the bottom edge of the white medallion (along Rnd 7) by looping the top knot through a stitch and securing with a tight knot. Trim excess thread.
Section 6: Final Assembly
- Locate the top two ‘points’ on the white medallion (approximately 5 shell groups apart from Rnd 7, symmetrical).
- Using jewelry pliers, open a jump ring and attach one of the remaining green leaves to one of these points on the medallion. Attach the other end of the jump ring to the necklace chain.
- Repeat for the second green leaf and the other side of the medallion, ensuring the medallion hangs straight.
- The small green leaves attached to the main chain are purely decorative; if desired, they can be omitted or replaced with a small bead. The image shows small green leaves directly on the chain itself, acting as connectors. So, ensure these are securely attached to the chain using the jump rings and then to the medallion.
