Cut 9 strands of yarn (3 Forest Green, 3 Olive Green, 3 Light Green), each about 36 inches long. Fold in half. Attach to the bottom point of an ear flap with a lark’s head knot. You will have 18 strands. Separate into 3 sections of 6 strands each (mix colors within sections). Braid tightly until desired length is reached (approx. 12-14 inches). Knot the end to secure, then trim the ends evenly to create a tassel.
Horns (Make 4: 2 Brown, 2 Tan/Beige)
Start with Brown or Tan/Beige yarn.

Assembly
Using a tapestry needle and the yarn tails:
- Attach Horns: Sew the two Brown horns on top of the hat, slightly towards the front. Sew the two Tan/Beige horns behind them, slightly wider apart.
- Attach Eyes: Position the assembled eyes on the front of the hat, above the ear flaps, and sew them securely.
- Attach Scales: Strategically sew the various sized green scales onto the hat. Start at the top and work downwards, overlapping them to create a textured, dragon-like skin. Mix the different shades of green for a natural, variegated look. Pay attention to the areas around the eyes, horns, and down the sides.
- Attach Spine/Tail: Sew the wider end of the spine/tail piece to the back of the hat, centering it. Continue sewing it down the back of the hat. Once attached, sew more scales along the top and sides of the spine/tail piece, tapering the scale size as the tail narrows.
- Edging: Optionally, sc around the entire bottom edge of the hat and ear flaps with Forest Green yarn for a clean finish.
