Instructions

MAIN BODY (Worked from Back to Front)
Using Light Blue yarn:
Rnd 1: Start with a magic ring, work 6 sc into the ring. (6 sts)

Rnd 4: [2 sc, inc] repeat around. (24 sts)
Rnd 5: [3 sc, inc] repeat around. (30 sts)

Rnd 8: [6 sc, inc] repeat around. (48 sts)
Rns 9-15: Continue increasing by 6 sts each round until you reach 90 sts.
Rns 16-30: Work even in sc around, alternating stripes of Teal, Light Blue, and Cream on the bottom third to mimic the whale’s belly.
CREATING THE MOUTH OPENING
To create the large open mouth for the cat to enter, we will transition from working in rounds to working in back-and-forth rows for a portion of the stitches.
Row 31: Sc in next 60 sts, ch 1, turn, leaving the remaining 30 sts unworked (this creates the mouth opening).
Rows 32-45: Work in rows across the 60 sts, maintaining your stripe pattern.
Row 46: Ch 30 (to bridge the gap), join back to the other side to resume working in the round.
Rnds 47-50: Sc around the entire opening (including the chain) to finish the snout area. Decrease gradually at the front corners to shape the nose.
Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Stuff lightly and sew to the top-center of the body.
SIDE FLIPPERS (Make 2)
Using Cream yarn for the inner side and Light Blue for the outer side:
Ch 10. Working down the chain: sc in second ch from hook, hdc in next, dc in next 5 sts, hdc in next, sc in last. Turn to work along the opposite side of the chain to create a leaf shape.
Sew the cream and blue pieces together, attach to the lower sides of the whale body.
TAIL FIN
Using Light Blue yarn, make two separate flukes and join them:
Rnd 1: 6 sc in magic ring.
Rnd 2: [inc] around. (12 sts)
Rnds 3-8: Gradually increase to 24 sts to form a cone.
Join both flukes together with sc, then decrease down to 18 sts to form the base of the tail. Sew securely to the back end of the main body.
EYES & FINISHING
