Instructions
Helicopter Body & Tail (Blue Yarn)
Rnd 1: Start with a magic ring (MR) and work 6 sc into it (6 sts)
Rnd 2: [inc] in each st around (12 sts)
Rnd 3: [sc, inc] repeat 6 times (18 sts)
Rnd 4: [2 sc, inc] repeat 6 times (24 sts)
Rnd 5: [3 sc, inc] repeat 6 times (30 sts)
Rnd 6-12: sc in each st around (30 sts for 7 rounds)
Rnd 13: [3 sc, dec] repeat 6 times (24 sts)
Rnd 14: [2 sc, dec] repeat 6 times (18 sts). Begin stuffing the cabin firmly with fiberfill.
Rnd 15-17: sc in each st around (18 sts)
Rnd 18: [1 sc, dec] repeat 6 times (12 sts)
Rnd 19-23: sc in each st around (12 sts). This forms the beginning of the tail.
Rnd 24: [2 sc, dec] repeat 3 times (9 sts)
Rnd 25-27: sc in each st around (9 sts)
Rnd 28: [1 sc, dec] repeat 3 times (6 sts)
Rnd 29: Bend the tail slightly upward, sc 6. Fasten off, leaving a tail to sew closed. Weave in the ends.
Front Window (White Yarn)
Row 1: ch 5, starting in 2nd ch from hook, work 3 sc, then work 3 sc in the last ch. Turn to work along the opposite side of the chain: 2 sc, and inc in the last loop. Sl st to join, fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing.
Use black embroidery thread to stitch simple closed eyes onto the front window before sewing it onto the front of the cabin.
Side Windows (Make 2 in White Yarn)
Row 1: ch 4, start in the 2nd ch from hook: 2 sc, 3 sc in the last chain, work on the opposite side of the chain: 1 sc, inc. Fasten off, leaving a tail for assembly.
Main Rotor Blades (Grey Yarn)
Row 1: ch 15. Starting in 2nd ch from hook, sl st in each ch to the end. Fasten off.
Repeat this step to make a second strip. Lay them across each other in an ‘X’ shape and sew together at the center to form the 4-blade rotor.
Tail Rotor (Yellow Yarn)
Rnd 1: In a MR, work [ch 3, sl st back into the MR] repeat 3 times to create a three-blade tail rotor. Pull the ring tight, fasten off, and leave a yarn tail for attachment.
Landing Skids (Grey Yarn & Wire)
Using thin craft wire, bend it into the shape of two parallel skids connected by two crossbars. Crochet over the wire using single crochet stitches in grey yarn to cover it completely. Sew the skids securely to the bottom of the helicopter body.
Assembly
- Sew the front window and side windows to the cabin body.
- Sew the main grey rotor to the top center of the helicopter cabin.
- Sew the yellow tail rotor to the end of the tail on the right side.
- Attach the keychain metal loop securely to the top center of the helicopter, right underneath the main rotor.
