Fasten off Cream yarn, leaving a long tail for weaving in.
Strap (Cream Yarn):
Cut 6 strands of Cream yarn, each approximately 150 inches (380 cm) long.
Gather 3 strands together and make a braid approximately 30 inches (76 cm) long, leaving about 6 inches (15 cm) unbraided at each end.
Repeat for the second braid.
Attach one end of each braided strap to the top edging of the bag, approximately 10-12 sts apart from the center of the bag sides. Use a tapestry needle to securely sew the unbraided ends of the strap to the top edging. Repeat for the other side of the bag.
Alternatively, you can crochet a strap: Ch 150 (or desired length), sl st in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Fasten off and sew to the bag.
Fringe (Cream and Light Tan Yarn):
Cut strands of Cream and Light Tan yarn approximately 10 inches (25 cm) long. You’ll need about 50-70 strands of each color, or as desired.
For each fringe: Take 2-3 strands of yarn (mix colors as desired). Fold the strands in half.
Insert your hook into a stitch along the Light Tan Lower Body Band (Rnd 7). Hook the folded loop of the yarn strands and pull it halfway through the stitch.
Pull the tails of the yarn strands through the loop and tighten to secure the fringe.
Attach fringes evenly around the entire lower band.
Optional Wooden Beads: Before tightening some of the fringes, thread a wooden bead onto both tails of the fringe. Slide it up to the knot before tightening completely.
