Bag Base (Yarn A – Tan/Beige)
- Row 1: Ch 21. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next 18 ch, 3 sc in last ch. Working along the other side of the foundation chain, sc in next 19 ch. Join with sl st to first sc. [42 sts]
- Round 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in first st, sc in next 18 sts, 2 sc in next 3 sts, sc in next 18 sts, 2 sc in last st. Join with sl st. [48 sts]
- Round 3-5: Ch 1, sc in each st around. Join with sl st. [48 sts]
Bag Body (Shell Stitch)

- Edging (Yarn A): Ch 1, sc evenly around the entire flap, working 3 sc in each corner. Join with sl st. FO, leaving a long tail for sewing.
Flap Appliqués (Make 4: 1 Yarn A, 3 Yarn D)
- R1: In MR, ch 2, 9 hdc. Pull ring tight. Do not join or turn. [9 hdc]
- R2: Ch 1, (sc in next st, hdc in next st, dc in next st, hdc in next st, sc in next st) in the first 5 stitches of R1, sl st in remaining 4 stitches. FO, leaving a long tail for sewing.
Drawstring (Yarn A & Yarn D)
- Cut 3 strands of Yarn A and 3 strands of Yarn D, each about 36 inches long.
- Gather the strands, fold in half, and knot the looped end. Braid tightly until desired length (approx. 20-24 inches). Knot the ends and trim.
- Small Tassels (Make 2): Wrap Yarn D around 2 fingers 10-15 times. Tie a knot at the top. Wrap another piece of yarn a few times about 1/2 inch below the top knot and secure. Trim ends to even length. Attach one tassel to each end of the braided drawstring.
Shoulder Strap (Yarn A, Yarn B, Yarn D)
- Cut 2 strands of each color (Yarn A, Yarn B, Yarn D), each about 120 inches long.
- Gather all 6 strands, fold in half, and knot the looped end securely. Braid tightly for desired strap length (approx. 40-45 inches). Knot the ends securely and trim.
Side Tassel (Yarn A, Yarn B, Yarn D, Yarn G)
- Cut multiple strands (approx. 10-15 of each color) about 12 inches long.
- Gather all strands together. Tie a knot in the middle with an extra piece of yarn, leaving a loop. Fold the strands in half over the knot. Wrap another piece of yarn a few times about 1/2 inch below the top and secure tightly. Trim ends to even length.
Assembly
- Position the flap on the back of the bag, centered, just above the top Royal Blue border. Using the long tail from the flap, sew it securely to the bag.
- Arrange the four appliqués on the flap as shown in the image (one beige, three aqua/teal). Sew them securely in place using their tails.
- Weave the drawstring through the sc stitches of the top Royal Blue border of the bag, alternating under and over every few stitches, starting from the center front.
- Attach the braided shoulder strap to the sides of the bag, just below the top border, using a tapestry needle to secure it firmly.
- Attach the multi-color side tassel to one side of the bag, near where the strap is attached.
