Instructions
This pattern creates individual floral motifs that are then joined to form the elegant V-shaped necklace. We will start by creating the main flower motif.
Flower Motif (Make 15-20, depending on desired length and width)
Round 1: Ch 6, join with sl st to first ch to form a ring.
Round 2: Ch 1, 12 sc into the ring. Join with sl st to the first sc. (12 sc)
Round 3 (Petal Bases): *Ch 4, skip next sc, sl st into next sc.* Repeat from * to * 6 times. You will have 6 ch-4 loops.
Round 4 (Petals): Into each Ch-4 loop: (sl st, Ch 2, 3 dc, Ch 2, sl st). You will have 6 petals. Fasten off, leaving a long tail on some motifs for joining.
Joining Motifs to Form the Necklace
The necklace is formed by joining motifs in a V-shape. You will create rows of flowers, decreasing the number of flowers in each subsequent row. For a necklace of approximately 16-18 inches, you will need about 15-20 motifs. The number can vary based on your gauge and desired size.
First Row (Top Edge): Begin by laying out your first row of motifs (e.g., 7-8 flowers) in a gentle curve. Use the long tails or a separate piece of thread and tapestry needle to discreetly sew the petals of adjacent flowers together at their tips (at the Ch 2 space of the petals). Ensure a snug but not tight join.
Second Row: Position the second row of flowers (e.g., 6-7 flowers) beneath the first, centered in the spaces created by the first row. Join these flowers to each other and to the flowers in the row above, again by sewing the tips of the petals.
Subsequent Rows: Continue decreasing the number of flowers in each row, joining them as described, until you reach a single flower at the bottom point of the ‘V’. This will naturally create the elegant V-shape seen in the image.
Adding Pearls: Once all motifs are joined, use a fine sewing needle and matching thread to attach one pearl bead securely to the center of each desired flower. For the prominent drop at the very bottom, attach a pearl to the lowest point of the single bottom flower. You can use a small chain made of ch 5-7 to dangle the pearl slightly from the bottom flower if desired, before securing the pearl.
Finishing the Necklace
Weave in all remaining loose ends securely.
At each end of the top row of the necklace, attach one half of your jewelry clasp using matching sewing thread or by crocheting a small loop (Ch 10-15) for a button closure or for one part of a lobster clasp to clip onto.
Gently block your finished necklace to help it lay flat and define the lace work.
