Instructions
1. Cream Floral Motifs (Make 5)
With Cream thread, Ch 4, join with sl st to form a ring.
Round 1: Ch 1, 10 sc into ring. Join with sl st to first sc. (10 sc)
Round 2 (Petals): *Ch 3, dc in next sc, ch 3, sl st in same sc, sl st in next sc.* Rep from * to * 5 times total. Fasten off, weave in ends.
After making 5 motifs, choose 3 to be primary and sew a small green bead securely in the center of each of these three using a tapestry needle. Leave the other 2 without beads for now.
2. Green Base and Connecting Arc
With Emerald Green thread, Ch 60 (this will be the foundation for the main body, adjust length for desired neckline fit).
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each ch across. (59 sc) Turn.
Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as 1st dc), dc in next 2 sc, *ch 2, sk 2 sc, dc in next 3 sc.* Rep from * to * across to create spaces. Turn.
Row 3: Ch 1, sc in first 3 dc, *3 sc in ch-2 space, sc in next 3 dc.* Rep from * to * across. This creates a more solid base for attaching motifs. Fasten off.
3. Attaching Motifs & First Green Lace Layer
Locate the center of your green base. Pin the 3 floral motifs with green beads evenly spaced along the bottom edge of Row 3 of the green base, with two plain floral motifs on either side.
With Emerald Green thread, join with sl st to the beg of Row 3 of the green base.
Work a row of (sc, ch, sl st) around the edges of the base and the attached flowers, using sl sts to securely join the flowers to the green base at various points (e.g., between petals, at the base of petals). As you work, create small ‘leaf’ shapes by chaining and making a series of dc or tr stitches (e.g., ch 3, (dc, tr, dc) in next st, ch 3, sl st).
At points where the ‘leaves’ meet, add a small cream/pearl bead by stringing it onto your hook before completing a stitch (e.g., ch 1, string bead, sc in next st). Continue working around the entire base and motifs, outlining them and adding small connecting picots or ch-3 loops to create the intricate lace effect seen in the image.
Ensure the green yarn forms a defined outline and connection points for all the cream motifs, creating the overall collar shape.
4. Cream Infill & Second Lace Layer
With Cream thread, join to a ch-space or sl st connection point within the green lace framework.
Work a delicate infill layer using picots, small shell stitches (e.g., 3 dc in a space), and ch-loops to add texture and intricate detail. Focus on filling the empty spaces created by the green framework. For instance, in some green ch-spaces, work (sc, picot, sc).
Continue around the entire necklace piece, adding these details wherever they enhance the lace effect and connect the motifs further.
5. Outer Green Scalloped Border & Beads
With Emerald Green thread, join to any outer edge st.
Work a decorative scalloped border: *Sc in next st, sk 2 sts, (dc, ch 1, dc, ch 1, dc, ch 1, dc) in next st, sk 2 sts.* Rep from * to * around the entire outer edge of the necklace.
As you work this border, strategically incorporate small cream/pearl beads. For example, after the first dc of a shell, string a bead, then ch 1, dc. Or string a bead into a picot at the top of a shell. Aim for even distribution, particularly in the lower, more prominent scallops.
Fasten off, weave in all ends.
6. Tassels (Make 7)
Making a Tassel: Cut a piece of cardboard about 2 inches (5 cm) wide. Wrap Cream thread around the cardboard approx. 30-40 times (adjust for desired thickness). Carefully slide the wrapped thread off the cardboard. Thread a separate 6-inch (15 cm) piece of cream thread through the top loop and tie a secure knot to gather the top. With another 6-inch (15 cm) piece of cream thread, wrap it tightly around the tassel about 1/4 inch (0.6 cm) from the top knot to form a head, tying securely and trimming ends. Cut the bottom loops of the tassel evenly.
Wrap a small band of Emerald Green thread around the top 1/4 inch of each tassel, just below the cream head wrap. Secure tightly and trim ends.
Attach each tassel to a small gold-tone jump ring.
Using the jump rings, attach the finished tassels to the prominent points along the bottom edge of your crocheted necklace.
7. Finishing & Neck Straps
With Emerald Green thread, join to the top corner of one side of the necklace. Ch 40 (or desired length for the neck strap). Fasten off.
Repeat for the other side.
Attach your chosen necklace clasp to the ends of these chains using jewelry pliers.
Weave in all remaining loose ends meticulously. Block your necklace gently to shape if desired.
