Instructions
Step 1: The Book Cover (Navy Blue)
Row 1: Ch 11, starting in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each of the next 10 chains. Ch 1, turn. (10 sts)
Rows 2-18: Sc in each stitch across. Ch 1, turn. (10 sts)
Round 19 (Border): Do not turn at the end of Row 18. Sc evenly around the entire perimeter of the rectangle, placing 3 sc in each corner to create neat edges. Fasten off and weave in ends.
Step 2: The Pages (Cream)
Row 1: Ch 9, starting in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each of the next 8 chains. Ch 1, turn. (8 sts)
Rows 2-16: Sc in each stitch across. Ch 1, turn. (8 sts)
Row 17: Sc in each stitch across. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Fold this piece in half accordion-style or double it up to form a thick block representing the book pages.
Step 3: Celestial Embroidery
Using the gold embroidery floss and a fine needle, decorate the front half of the blue cover:
- Embroider a central 8-pointed star using straight stitches overlapping at the center.
- Embroider a small crescent moon shape to the upper right of the star.
- Add delicate scrollwork or swirls in the four corners of the front cover using backstitch.
- On the spine area (the middle of the navy rectangle), embroider three horizontal bars to mimic a classic leather-bound book spine.
Step 4: Assembly & Hair Clip Attachment
Fold the navy cover in half to find the center crease. Insert a small strip of stiff felt inside the spine if you prefer extra structure.
Position the folded cream pages block inside the cover. Using the cream yarn tail, sew the back of the page block to the spine crease of the blue cover, securing it tightly.
Apply hot glue or fabric glue to the top of the metal alligator clip, and press it firmly onto the back cover of the book. Allow to dry completely before wearing.
